Upcycling

Denim is strong, robust and almost indestructible! But I hope I don't have to tell you that making and editing your urban jacket has a huge negative impact on the environment. Throw it away? No! Let me upcycle your, perhaps still somewhat boring, jacket. Or buy a jacket upcycled by me in the webshop.

OK... just a little bit of extra information then?

Your denim jacket is usually a mix of cotton with e.g. elastane (for stretch) or other fabrics. But the main component is real cotton. The fibers are woven close together in a diagonal pattern. A blue thread is generally used along the length and a white thread along the width. And? Do you recognize your blue jacket in this?

In case you didn't know yet...

During the production of your beautiful urban jacket, an incredible amount of water is used. Think about 7000 liters! Just think for a moment that 10% of the world's population does not have access to clean water... And the most shocking thing is that the largest denim production takes place in countries where there is little clean (drinking) water. What does this fact do to you?

Bzzz..... That's not something you want to hear when growing cotton! Worldwide, the cotton industry is responsible for 16% of all insecticides and 7% of all herbicides. You can imagine the impact this has on the ecological system, but think about the health of the cotton farmers who grow the crop...?

Okay... one more then... Did you know that many jeans are sandblasted. During this process, small sand particles can quickly accumulate in the lungs. And do you want a tan? (Too) many chemical agents such as chlorine are also used for this. Not very healthy for the maker of your jacket as well as for the environment.

Ban denim from your closet? You can, if you feel good about it! Nowadays, more and more brands are coming onto the market that produce sustainable denim. And another alternative is to upcycle your jacket or give another jacket a second life! In this way, you significantly reduce the environmental impact! By making conscious choices in this, you also make it possible to stimulate a more sustainable denim industry.
